I started making mash-ups regularly about a year ago, starting with my Eternal Strength video. It wasn't my first blend, or my first uploaded, but it was when I first started to see the opportunities these mixes presented. Not only could I use this medium to interpret songs in new ways, but I could also help give great artists the exposure they needed and hopefully help blur the lines that often seperate hip hop fans. Through these mash-ups I learned the collaborative nature of music, how a little bit of two styles can create something beautiful and unexpected. Now, nearly a hundred blends later, I like to think that I've partially achieved that goal.
I certainly don't expect or deserve any credit for this music,
but I hope these mixes have helped redefine how you think of hip hop, and will continue to open your mind to new sounds and styles as they're created.
I'd like to thank everyone who's taken the time out of their life to listen to what I've made, and I hope you've enjoyed my work. Thanks to all the artists who made this a labor of love, and thanks to fellow blendmakers like Mashup Militia (who are the guys behind this beautiful artwork gracing your screen) and zensevent who help inspire me and help hone my craft.
Here's to the first 100, and a hundred more to come....more
Oddisee is one of the many up-and-coming beatmakers in this new wave of production whose ability and raw talent is truly jaw-dropping. Just skip over Asher Roth's verse. Yuck. Arby Wan Kenobi
